You already know that I have a Goliath gang for the new Necromunda Underhive game. I didn’t stop there, though: I bought the entire Necromunda starter box with no intentions of splitting. So naturally, I had to build and paint an Escher gang, too. Here are the Blacklights.
Necromunda Underhive is a fun game! But even before I had the chance to try it, I had spent some time reading the books from the old game. That happened years before any new game was on the horizon. So when the new edition came out, I bought the starter immediately. I got to painting both gangs. And I finally bothered to take pictures of my entire Necromunda Goliath gang!
Games Workshop has just announced Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus, which seems to be an Adeptus Mechanicus focused XCOM-like game. Bulwark Studios isn’t a total nobody – they have made a game and a DLC, according to Steam, and both of them are on the “mostly positive” side of things. All in all, I’d like to see more gameplay to make a solid opinion about it.
Magos Dominus Reditus still seems like a very cheeky name, though.
Hatred is, after all, the Emperor’s greatest gift for humanity. And ya’ll kids know that unca JcDent has enough bile, vitriol and foul temper for two racist uncles. I had previously written my wishlist/hatelist for the upcoming Codex: Astra Militarum. That book has since been released, so here I am on the road again, bitching about the new Imperial Guard codex. Codex: Astra Militarum fixed a few problems from the Index, but not all. It introduced a few more. Here they are.
Games Workshop is mostly known for Warhammer 40.000 and I’m well known for whining about it. However, GW also produces a Lord of the Rings miniature wargame. It had been languishing for the longest time, beset by questionable business practices and Tom Kirby’s disdain. The new management is a little more pro-active about maintaining the property. Forgeworld is releasing miniatures from the Hobbit movie in expensive resin. Warhammer Community publishes articles around it.
YakTribe is probably the greatest website for people interested in Specialist Games: Necromunda (both old and new), Mordheim and Gorkamorka. Before the release of Necromunda: Underhive, the website held all the PDFs you could ever want about the old game. Heck, it even supported Inquisimunda (boo, hiss).
But now, YakTribe has released the tools for maintaining your gang roster and managing the campaign in Necromunda: Underhive/Gang Wars. The tools are amazing, beautifully done and easy to use. You can even add photos of your gangers to your profiles and you have multiple options for printable gang cards! It’s great!
I had played actual Battlefleet Gothic over Vassal and I have played the first Battlefleet Gothic: Armada. That game was super pretty, but also hampered by the real-time approach to things. It was just too micro intensive to be fully fun. I hope they will have learned those lessons for Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2.
Age of Darkness is what Forge World calls their 40K spin-off set in Horus Heresy. Naturally, everyone just calls it Horus Heresy. 8th edition dropped last year and Age of Darkness found itself without a rulebook. After all, the game was using modified 7e rules. This forced Forge World to release its own standalone rulebook. However, Alan Bligh, the lead writer for the project passed away from cancer a few months before 8e, and it was a real scramble to get it published. Took them half a year, but now we have a book. And here is my copy of Age of Darkness rulebook!
Last year, I bough Repulsor, the aptly named flying Primaris Landraider mostly to build it the way I want it, to make it less ugly. This mostly involved totally replacing the God-awful turret with something else. And I mostly succeeded! I did all the painting in one month, as per rules of Something Awful Oath thread. I was aiming to hit all of the monthly challenges it presents, so details are to follow. It took that many pictures simply because I could get more points that way for Show Your Work challenge.
